We've had a great day here at PLA! Our students have been so ready to get to work and have expressed such great attitudes! We truly have the best group of students here ever!! Just a few notes and reminders for parents:
1. Polos will be given out to students who purchased them on Thursday morning...the shop was closed on Monday due to MLK Day so I won't be picking them up until Wednesday when I'm in Crossville again.
2. DVDs of this year's Christmas play are available for purchase for just $5.00!!!!! Please see Mrs. Kirby to place your order now!
***For Parents of High School Students***
We will be sending home a copy of the PLA High School Student Handbook, which outlines our program, our rules, and the expectations we have of our students. Please review this handbook with your child, you and the student both sign the back page acknowledging that you have both read it completely and understand the contents, and return it to school (only return the signed back page...keep the rest of the book at home for reference). We must receive the signed back page by no later than Friday, January 29...students will not be permitted to attend classes until the form is returned. We must do this to insure that we are all on the same page with the rules and expectations. While we have talked with many of you in person, there are parents whose schedules do not permit them to come to the school during the regular academic day. We want to make sure that ALL of our parents are informed and knowledgeable of what we are doing here at school and what is expected of your child while here (academically and behaviorally) and at home (academically).
We will be scheduling an Open House for our currently enrolled high school students and their parents the first week in February. We strongly encourage everyone to attend...this will be a great opportunity to ask questions, get information, and provide input or suggestions about the program and school. I'll be posting the date of the open house soon...check the blog for more info.

Welcome Back!
Well, after a really nice long Christmas break...and a few missed days due to snow and ice, we're back into the swing of things here at PLA. The kids are all excited about being back together and are ready to get the learning process cranked back up! We've had a really productive 2 day week, so much so that we're now ready for a 3 day weekend!!! PLA will be closed Monday, January 18, 2010 to observe Martin Luther King Day. Maybe the bad weather will hold off and we'll have the rest of the week to work!
The PLA shirts are now ready. We apologize for the delay, but the company stopped production on the particular color and style we had ordered and when new students came in with late orders, Mrs. Taylor had to search the Internet for a suitable match. She found the same style and color and now has all the shirts ready. I'll be picking them up on Tuesday afternoon so students can expect to have them on Wednesday.

PLA Polos & Free / Reduced Lunch Applications
Parents...please remember to complete and return the Application for Free and Reduced Lunch that was sent home with your child last week. Currently, we've received a little over half of the applications back and are awaiting the rest. As you know, we currently provide lunch at no extra cost to each student at PLA. We do, however, participate in the Tennessee Department of Education's School Nutrition Program, which requires us to have an application on file for each student. It is very important that you complete the application and return it ASAP.
Also, please remember to give your child's teacher his or her shirt size for PLA Polo shirts that we need to order this week. If your child has one from last year and it's still in good shape (and fits) you need not buy another one. School Polos are required for certain field trips and class outings.
If you have any questions, please contact me at the school @ 931-528-2543, ext. 204.
Thanks!
Mr. Jones

Week 2!
Well, we've survived the first week of school and are moving on to week two! The first few days of the new year were spent getting to know one another and learning the ways of PLA. Now it's time to get ready for a fun-filled educational journey that will take us to new places, introduce us to new things, and show us how to make the most of our explorations! Hang on...it's going to be a wild ride!!!
Parents: New PLA students will need to purchase a PLA Polo to wear on specific field trips and class outings. Parents, please let your child's teacher know what size shirt he or she needs this week. We will be ordering new shirts next Wednesday. The cost of Polo's are $17.00 each. Students who bought PLA Polos last year will not need to buy new ones, unless they've grown and need a larger size. The style and design have not changed.

It's "Back-to-School" Time!!!
I hope everyone has had an enjoyable summer filled with lots of fun and excitement! If your reflections on the past two months leave you saying "Gosh, I wish I'd done (insert your choice activity here) or gone (insert the destination of your choice here) !!!" then get up off the sofa, turn off the video game, and get out there and have some fun! You still have 6 days of summer freedom!!! School at PLA will start Monday, August 10 at 8 am for grades Pre-K through 10 (high school Sophomores). Grades 11 & 12 (Juniors and Seniors) start at 11 am. We will be in session all week! Please note that Putnam County has early dismissal on the 10th and are out the 11th for Inservice. PLA will begin at 8 am on Monday and dismissal will be at regular time, 3 pm. We will be in school the entire week. Do not follow Putnam County's schedule for the first week! We are looking forward to a productive year full of new hands-on learning experiences for all grades! See you Monday morning!
